what you gather

  • ·1 red candle
  • ·a small piece of paper naming exactly what you need to face
  • ·a match, struck by hand (not a lighter, for this one)

the working

  1. Iwrite down exactly what you're facing on the paper. Precision matters more than eloquence.
  2. IIstrike the match and light the candle with it, holding the flame a moment before touching it to the wick.
  3. IIIread the paper aloud once.
  4. IVspeak the incantation.
  5. Vlet the candle burn while you rehearse, once, what you actually plan to say.
  6. VIsnuff the candle. Carry the memory of the flame into the room with you.
