Iron Nail Doorway Guard

what you gather

• ·4 iron nails (old, if you can find them — new is fine)
• ·black thread
• ·a small piece of black cloth or felt
• ·a black candle

the working

1. Ilay the four nails in a cross pattern on the black cloth.
2. IIlight the black candle beside them.
3. IIIhold each nail in turn, speaking the incantation once per nail.
4. IVwrap all four together with black thread, nine turns.
5. Vbury one nail just outside each entrance to the home (front door, back door — if you can't bury, place beneath the doormat instead).
6. VIrenew the working once a year, ideally at the same season.
